A BRIEF HISTORY OF RESOURCE INTERNATIONAL
BEGINNINGS PRODUCE SUCCESS
Resource International began in 1980 as Resource Associates, a Houston based business of associated
educators, psychologists, speakers/trainers, and business professionals. Initially, programs were offered
to the general public throughout the country. RI received numerous awards from many organizations for it's
programs, but especially from the Mental Health Association. MHA
presented RI with their Outstanding Speaker Award four times for RI's work with MHA's Corporate
Speakers Bureau.
FROM SPEAKING TO TRAINING
Having learned of the quality of RI's presentations, one of the largest
energy companies in the world called in 1983 asking if RI had any
training seminars. Ever since, RI has offered multi-day programs each
year to this company's employees, one on Successfully Managing
the Stress of Change and another on Successful Work Relationships.
More recently an additional course on Assertiveness was added.
Consistently rated, "the best program I have ever attended,"
these trainings continue today, over two decades later testifying
to the popularity and practicality of these flagship programs.
Training success led to an expansion of RI's seminar work into such
areas as leadership, quality, teambuilding, diversity, strategic planning,
presentation and speaking skills, and communication.
EXPANDING INTO ORGANIZATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND INTERVENTION
The reputation for RI's programming spread to other corporations, e.g. Texaco, Enron, M.W. Kellogg,
U.S. Navy, Architect of the Capitol, Stewart Title Guaranty Co. and NASA. A more complete list is
available on our Client's Page. RI uses the Concerns
Based Adoption Model as a theoretical foundation for assessing an organization's needs and developing
relevant training/intervention strategies. Based on this model, RI developed a range of services including
customized trainings, management consultation, executive coaching, and video based trainings.
SERVING HOUSTON'S PUBLIC THROUGH TELEVISION
The City of Houston's Municipal Channel sponsored RI's Stress
& Change television show for six years. Many half-hour and
one-hour programs were created sharing the insights, tools and techniques
of RI's corporate training programs with the public a number of times
each day. PBS stations around the country have aired "All
Stressed Up & No Where to Go," based on RI's materials.
GROWING INTERNATIONALLY
Following the collapse of the iron curtain, RI was in a unique position to be of support to the people of
Slovenia, the northern most republic of what used to be Yugoslavia. Since 1992, two to three months
each year, numerous programs have been offered in Slovenia, i.e. seminars for government agencies,
educational systems, management associations, and corporations. Additionally, programs have been
offered by RI associates in England, Canada, Japan, Australia, and many European countries.
BECOMING RESOURCE INTERNATIONAL
In 1995 Resource Associates became Resource International to reflect the more global perspective the
organization has taken in its work.
FROM TRAINING AND TEAMBUILDING TO WEB BASED PROGRAMS
NASA's Johnson Space Center in 1998, based upon the reputation of
many successful training programs offered by Resource International,
requested that RI create web based
training versions of Ri's basic stress and communication courses.
These programs have expanded the range of services which the company
can offer to your organization to support RI's basic mission: reducing
the resistance to change and conflict in individuals and organizations.
A free web based training on 5 principles relating Stress
and Change is available online.
